The six Japanese Botanicals
ROKU is produced in the “Liquor Atelier”, the specialised craft distillery for Suntory spirits and liquor. The Atelier owns four distinct types of pot stills and, in a process unique to ROKU, the botanicals are distilled separately according to each feature of botanicals to extract the best flavour and maintain their individual characteristics.
For instance, the delicate scent of cherry blossom is drawn out through vacuum distillation in stainless pot stills, whereas the deep flavour of yuzu is achieved by distillation in copper pot stills.
A complex Japanese gin with refreshing yuzu citrus top notes and a spicy shansho pepper twist. Roku means 'six' in Japanese and refers to the six local, seasonal botanicals which complement eight traditional gin botanicals (juniper berries, coriander, lemon peel, etc) and give this spirit a distinctly Japanese character.
The six seasonal botanicals are harvested in its Shun which is the when they are at their blossom or peak. Sakura flower can only be harvested during its blooming season which occurs only 1-2 weeks/year. It is hand-picked and freshly macerated in spirits.
The six Japanese botanicals are: sakura flower (cherry blossom), sakura leaf, sencha tea, gyokuro tea, sansho pepper and yuzu peel.
